Church History

On September 2, 2001, Word of Life Christian Center held its first worship service to the glory and honor of God. The church was incorporated by the state of New Jersey on October 12, 2001. Many events and encounters with Almighty God transpired before the establishment of the church. Pastor Frederick Thompson was gloriously saved on September 11, 1988. It was not long before it was clearly evident that God’s hand of anointing was upon his life. In July of 1989, he started his teaching ministry at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. It was in 1989 that he began to sense a strong call from God to the pastorate. After several years of serving faithfully in ministry in Charleston, South Carolina and overseas in Turkey, the Lord lead Elder and Sister Roseclair Thompson to unite with Christian Faith Assembly. Under the powerful leadership of Apostle Dr. Maurice Randolph and Rev. Dr. Kathleen Harris, they were able to spread their wings and make final preparations to launch a new church. With the blessing from their pastors, Elder and Sister Thompson set out to establish a Bible believing, spirit-filled church that would impact the community and ultimately the world.

Pastor and First Lady Thompson did not establish the work alone. God prepared a small core of believers that were instrumental in getting the new church off the ground. Brother Shawn Jones and Trustee Rachel Jones, our Chairperson of the Trustee Board, were among the first to put their hands to the plow. Minister Joseph Rogers, Jr., our first Praise and Worship Director, added his faith to the work that God was establishing. Deacon Robert Douglas, our Chairman of the Deacon Board, sensed a strong call from God to help establish a church that would honor His name. Deacon Lonnie Isaac and Deaconess Sharon Isaac believed that God had shown them the church home they had been looking for. Deaconess Brenda Weaver, possessing a true servant’s heart, was more than willing to be a part of a church that would reach out to her community in Sunbury Village. Minister Ian and Sister Nicola Edwards sought the will of God and obeyed as God instructed them to be a part of the foundation for this work. Minister Edwards established our music ministry, serving faithfully as our Minister of Music. All in all, the Lord blessed us every step of the way. The Father was gracious in sending Word of Life Christian Center their first new member, Sister Peggy Garcia. She has proven to be a tremendous blessing to the church.

The Lord has blessed Word of Life Christian Center to raise up and establish many strong leaders and ministries within the first few months of their existence. Ministers, Deacons and Deaconesses, Trustees, Children’s ministry, Men’s ministry, Women’s ministry, Youth ministry, Sunday School, the Choir, Praise and Worship, Music ministry, Usher Board, Tape and Sound ministry, Outreach ministry, Administration, and our Fellowship ministry were all established by the grace of God. These ministries were established while meeting in Marcus Newcomb School in Pemberton, New Jersey. Word of Life met there for 10 months. Currently, Word of Life is holding services at Sykesville Presbyterian Church in Wrightstown, New Jersey. In August 2005, 10 acres of land, located one mile from the present meeting location, was purchased in order to build a church to the glory and honor of God. We have come this far by faith and we expect to see God’s provision for everything that He has called us to accomplish as a church.
